1958 Zenith TV with Space Command remote

It must have been a golden time for independent Television and Radio stores like Jack Bartlett’s. Remote Control of your television, being able to turn the channel without getting up when no kids were in the room, it was almost a miracle. And mute commercials! Of course there might have been an issue with the rabbit ears, but still, a leap forward.

Mr. Bartlett was the 2nd generation to run this shop, until it closed in 1973. Very few family businesses survive into the third generation, I’m told. Jack was also a barber, and a real estate agent. Why not? I’m sure he knew everyone in town. There are probably some old timers around who have stories about him. Every town had guys like this, I suppose.
