I was out walking the dog in the relatively unpopulated area behind the Marysville Mall, and encountered this survey marker in the cement next to the opera house. I thought it was weird, a coast guard survey? and this far inland? So I took a picture of it.
I got home and looked at the picture, Turns out that it’s a coast Geodesic survey, not Coast Guard. My vision is not what it once was, and my dog is completely blind, so he’s no help.

A Geodesic Survey is “a land survey with corrections made to account for the curvature of the earth’s surface.” Which begs the question, exactly how big is this old opera house??
